challengers of the unknown is among the character concepts that i found inherently intriguing but dont seem to have a stone-cold classic story
entirely possible im wrong and just dont know of a great arc/book for them tho
i kind of vaguely recall grant morrison wanting to do CHALLENGERS: BEYOND THE UNKNOWN, which may be where most of my latent fascination originated
