Of all the low budget, young-audience aimed space shows of 1950s television (Captain Video and his Video Rangers, Rocky Jones Space Ranger, and Space Patrol), the one that holds up the best is Tom Corbett, Space Cadet, because it prioritized the human element over the action and had strong characterization
(at least for the kind of show it was, anyway). Tom Corbett was about male friendships, bonding, camaraderie, and brotherhood.
People don’t associate this kind of show with scientific accuracy, but Tom Corbett made a valiant attempt at it (again, for the type of show it was). For instance, one episode mentioned that in space, it takes energy to decelerate. Willy Ley, an actual legit rocket scientist, worked as a consultant on it.
It also has that very 1950s thing where everyone is supposed to be a teenager, but they all look 30.
